On May 22, 2024, Darryl 'DMC' McDaniels from the renowned hip hop group Run DMC visited Worcester Alternative School. He aimed to discuss important topics like mental health and resilience with the students. McDaniels shared his personal experiences and emphasized the importance of expressing emotions and understanding hip hop's history.

During his talk, McDaniels highlighted the significance of respecting the origins of hip hop and shared his own mental health struggles. He pointed out that mental health issues affect people from all backgrounds, including successful individuals.

The timing of McDaniels' visit was apt as the students had recently finished his memoir, 'Ten Ways Not To Commit Suicide.' The book, which explores his mental health challenges, set the stage for meaningful discussions. His candidness about his struggles provided hope and a sense of connection for the students.

Educator Dennis Vanasse, who organized the event, remarked on the positive impact of McDaniels' visit. He noted that many students face similar issues, and McDaniels' openness was both inspiring and reassuring. Vanasse highlighted that McDaniels' life story encourages overcoming adversity through self-belief and persistence.

Unfortunately popularity is NOT the same Education, it’s a sad reality that many people don’t understand this. Our youth are the ones who suffer from this problem. They believe that Hip Hop has a place in Society and they don’t have Parents to teach them the difference. Sad.
