Aiken man found fatally shot near abandoned car

The Aiken County Sheriff's Office is investigating after an Aiken man was found dead Monday morning near the side of the road.

Billy J. Reedy Jr., 46, of Aiken, was identified as the victim, according to a news release from the Aiken County Coroner's Office.

Just before 5:45 a.m., a deputy patrolling near Vaucluse Road and Senn Street found a vehicle on the side of the road, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.

While investigating, the deputy saw a dead body with a gunshot wound lying in the wood line, according to the release.

"There is no suspect description at this time," according to the sheriff's office. "This is an ongoing investigation and information will be released as it becomes available."

The Aiken County Coroner's Office is assisting with the investigation, according to the release.
