    Aiken woman charged in shooting death of man found near abandoned car

    The Aiken County Sheriff's Office Monday night announced an arrest in the shooting death of an Aiken man.

    Donna Boatwright, 41, of Aiken, is charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.

    Boatwright was arrested at about 2 p.m. Monday in Saluda County in relation to the death of Billy J. Reedy Jr., 46, of Aiken, according to the release. She was taken into custody during a traffic stop by the Saluda County Sheriff’s Office without incident and was transported to the Aiken County Detention Center.

    "This investigation is still ongoing and as any new information becomes available, it will be released," according to the sheriff's office.

    Just before 5:45 a.m. Monday, a deputy patrolling near Vaucluse Road and Senn Street found a vehicle on the side of the road, according to previous reporting.

    While investigating, the deputy saw a dead body with a gunshot wound lying in the wood line, according to the release. The body was later identified as Reedy Jr.
