Two area high school football players have been selected to represent the Aiken Standard coverage area and the state of South Carolina in the 88th Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas.

The rosters for the Shrine Bowl, which pits the top seniors from South Carolina against their counterparts from North Carolina, were revealed Sunday afternoon.

North Augusta wide receiver Connor Brown and Blackville-Hilda running back/linebacker Jaquel Holman were picked among the 44 players on the South Carolina roster.

Brown, a 6-foot-1, 190-pound receiver, recorded 131 yards and two touchdowns on seven catches despite suffering a broken collarbone on the first drive of the Yellow Jackets' season-opening win over Thomson. He earned All-Region and All-State recognition last year as a junior.

Holman, a 6-2, 200-pounder who's committed to the University of South Carolina, was selected as a running back. He is credited with 648 rushing yards and eight touchdowns on 75 carries through five games. He's averaging 8.6 yards per attempt and 129.6 yards per game, and he's also caught four passes for 60 yards. Defensively, he's credited with 21 tackles with four for loss with a sack and a forced fumble.

The 88th Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas is scheduled to be played Dec. 21 at Spartanburg High School.
