Wrong-way driver on Highway 218 Ends in Arrest
According to a press release from the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, Monday, at approximately 9:00 p.m., the Henry County Sheriff’s Office received numerous reports of a wrong-way driver on Highway 218. Initial reports stated the vehicle was going southbound in the northbound lanes of Highway 218 near the Henry-Washington County line. The Sheriff’s Office responded and located the vehicle in the 1400 grid of Highway 218. A traffic stop was performed, and the driver was identified as 55-year-old Jannette Vermeire, of Rock Island, IL. An investigation determined Vermeire to be Operating While Under the Influence of Alcohol. Vermeire was arrested for OWI, First Offense, Open Container, and Driving on the Wrong Side of a Two-Way Highway. The Henry County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Iowa State Patrol.
