First levy to fund Airway Heights Police Department on primary ballot

AIRWAY HEIGHTS, Wash. -- The Airway Heights City Council is looking raise property taxes to fund its police department, a first in the city's history.

According to the Airway Heights City Council, a property tax of $1 per $1,000 in assessed value will be up before voters in the August 6 primary. The city says this would equate to about $25 per month for property owners based on average home price.

The city council says the levy would hire more officers and replace aging patrol cars.

Airway Heights residents are asked to attend a public meeting with the police chief and city manager to ask any questions about the levy. That meeting will take place Thursday, July 25 at 5 p.m. at The Hub at 12703 W. 14th Ave.
