The latest nurse to receive the DAISY Award, recognition for outstanding nursing, at Riverwood Healthcare Center is Nichole Bock, a registered nurse for the hospital inpatient unit. Bock has worked for Riverwood for eight years, caring for medical and surgical patients.
Riverwood participates in the DAISY Award honoring exemplary nurses who have been recognized by a patient for their extraordinary act of compassion or a relationship that they have created with a patient that truly made a difference. The award is part of the DAISY Foundation’s program to recognize the super-human efforts nurses perform every day.
Linda Miller, a Riverwood patient who nominated Nichole for the DAISY Award, shared these comments: “Nichole was very joyful and took great time with me, helping me with my pain problems.”
Bock comments, “The part I love about nursing is that I’m able to help my patients feel better in their worst time of need. I love that I can listen to their needs and wants and try to help my patients in any way possible that I can.”
Bock lives in Brainerd with her husband, Loren, and three children, Hunter (20), Brianna (18), and Sophie (10). Her hobbies include deer hunting, camping, fishing in the summer, painting, and spending time with family and friends.
Riverwood Chief Nursing Officer Carla Zupko comments: “On behalf of Riverwood, we are pleased to recognize Nichole as our sixth DAISY Award winner. She is an amazing nurse and very deserving of this award! We give out the DAISY Award three times a year and encourage all patients to nominate a nurse who delivered outstanding care to them in the hospital or at the clinics.”

About the DAISY Award
The not-for-profit DAISY Foundation is based in Glen Ellen, CA, and was established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes. Patrick died at the age of 33 in late 1999 from complications of diopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a little known but not uncommon auto-immune disease. The care Patrick and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families.
