Good news for Florida drivers! Gas prices across the state have taken a welcome dive, offering some much-needed relief at the pump. If you’ve been feeling the pinch at the gas station recently, you’re not alone. Here’s a quick update on what’s happening with gas prices in Florida and what you can expect in Miami.

    Florida's Price Drop

In the lead-up to July 4, gas prices surged by 27 cents a gallon compared to last year. But now, there’s been a notable drop. Prices have fallen by about 18 cents per gallon statewide over the past week. As of Monday, the average price for a gallon of gas in Florida stands at $3.35. This is the lowest it’s been since July 1, according to AAA.

Mark Jenkins from AAA explains, ‘Futures prices have fallen the past two weeks, reaching the lowest levels in more than a month. This has reduced the cost of gasoline production.’ Despite the drop, Jenkins notes that Florida’s gas prices have been a bit unpredictable this summer, so we might see some fluctuations in the coming weeks.

    Miami's Gas Prices

In Miami-Dade County, the average price is also $3.35 per gallon, reflecting a 3-cent drop from last month and about a 10-cent decrease from a year ago. Prices in Miami can vary quite a bit—ranging from as low as $2.87 to as high as $4.66. Here’s a snapshot of prices in the surrounding areas:

    • Fort Lauderdale: $3.37
    • West Palm Beach/Boca Raton: $3.52

While South Florida is experiencing some relief, North Florida continues to offer the cheapest gas in the state. For example, in Bradenton/Sarasota and Jacksonville, the average price is $3.28 per gallon. In contrast, areas like Palm Beach County and Tallahassee are among the more expensive spots for fuel.

On a national scale, the average gas price is $3.50 per gallon. Patrick De Haan from GasBuddy highlights that while most of the country is enjoying a break from rising prices due to weaker demand and ample supplies, some regions are still feeling the effects of refinery issues. A major power outage at a refinery outside Chicago recently impacted gas supplies in several states, causing a temporary spike in prices.

    Finding Cheap Gas

If you’re looking for the best prices near you, the GasBuddy app is a handy tool. It shows local prices and tracks fuel availability, helping you save on your next fill-up.

So, if you’re driving around Florida or planning a road trip, enjoy the lower prices while they last. And remember, keeping an eye on local fuel prices with apps like GasBuddy can help you find the best deals in your area.
