On July 14th, an unsettling incident occurred in Orange County that has captured the community’s attention and sympathy. Two dogs were abandoned in a most distressing manner, pushed out of a moving vehicle. The situation took a turn for the worse when one of the dogs was hit by the car, resulting in serious injuries.

According to a statement from the Orange County Animal Services (OCAS), the dogs were seen being pushed out of a car, which then attempted to drive away. Unfortunately, one of the dogs was struck by the vehicle, becoming lodged underneath it and dragged for a short distance before managing to escape. The poor animal was found with severe injuries, including open lacerations on its body and cuts around its face.

An officer who responded to the scene described the condition of the injured dog: 'We approached the red dog that was hit by the car. The red/white dog was laying on the ground wearing a black collar. He had two open lacerations on the left side of his body, and his face had several cuts around his right eye, nose, and muzzle. Both front paws had open wounds. The dog would scream when being moved, but he was able to hobble on his stomach seeking attention.'

These two dogs, now named Calvin and Hobbs, were quickly taken to an emergency veterinary clinic. Calvin, the one who was injured, had several contusions and wounds, some of which required staples. Both dogs are now under the care of Furever Bully Love Rescue, an organization that stepped up to provide the necessary treatment and a safe environment.

The news release from OCAS highlighted the positive side of the story: 'Now, this is the part of the story where we see the best that people can offer. We emailed our rescue partners about the situation, and Furever Bully Love Rescue stepped up to help both boys. They are now in qualified, loving hands and receiving every bit of necessary care.'

Despite the care Calvin is receiving, the costs of his treatment are expected to be substantial. Furever Bully Love Rescue is actively seeking support, including donations, foster homes, and adopters for all their animals. The rescue group and OCAS are urging the community to stand against such cruel actions and to ensure that no animal is subjected to similar mistreatment in the future.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that an investigation into this case is ongoing. They provided the following update: 'On July 14, 2024, around 6:30 p.m., deputies responded to the intersection of South Rio Grande Ave and 18th Street, regarding two abandoned dogs. One of the dogs was severely injured after being struck and dragged by a vehicle. This incident is still an active and ongoing animal cruelty investigation, and we have no additional details to release at this time.'

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of responsible pet ownership and the need for community vigilance against animal cruelty.
