If you’re from central Florida or have spent any time there, you might remember the iconic Badcock Home Furniture stores. Founded in the Sunshine State, this beloved franchise has been a staple for home goods and appliances. However, recent news has shaken things up—Badcock, which was bought out by Conn’s, has hit a rough patch. Conn’s has filed for bankruptcy, leading to a wave of store closures across the country. Let’s dive into the ripple effects of this development, especially here in Florida.

In the Panhandle, the situation has been particularly tough. Sonja Reinhardt, who has been a cornerstone of the Badcock community in Panama City and Lynn Haven for over 30 years, is feeling the sting. “We got a call from corporate saying they had declared bankruptcy and would be closing all our stores,” Reinhardt shared with MyPanhandle.com. This isn’t just a business for her—it’s a family affair. “It’s like a punch in the gut,” she admitted, reflecting the deep emotional and financial impact this closure has on her and her family. Reinhardt had hoped to retire from this business she’s nurtured for decades.

Over in Bonifay, the Badcock store’s farewell message was equally poignant. In a Facebook post, they opened up about the closure, noting, “We want you to hear it directly from us. After 120 years, Badcock Home Furnishings will be closing ALL stores.” They stressed that the closure wasn’t due to their own faults or those of their customers. “Our small towns have been the backbone of our businesses for 120 years,” they wrote, adding that the store's liquidation sale would be starting soon.

If you’re in the market for some new home essentials, there’s a silver lining. With the liquidation sale underway, the discounts are substantial. Badcock’s website now features banners promoting markdowns across the board: bedding and electronics are up to 40% off, furniture is slashed by up to 50%, and appliances are discounted by 30%. It’s a bittersweet opportunity for shoppers to snag some deals while helping to ease the sting of these closures.

So, while the closing of Badcock stores marks the end of an era for many Floridians, it also brings a unique shopping opportunity. The deep discounts may help soften the blow, but the real story here is the sense of loss and change affecting both the employees and the communities they served. If you’re close to a Badcock store, it might be worth a visit—not just for the deals but also to show support for the local businesses that have been a part of our lives for so long.
