Franco Stanzione, the acclaimed chef behind the popular Stanzione 87, has made a triumphant return to Miami’s dining scene. After closing his Brickell restaurant earlier this year, Stanzione has reopened his pizzeria at The Citadel in Little River, promising to deliver the same high-quality, authentic Neapolitan pizzas that made his original spot a local favorite.

A New Chapter in Little River

The fresh iteration of Stanzione, now situated in The Citadel food hall, has taken over the space previously occupied by Ash, another former pizza venue. Although the restaurant is currently operating with a limited menu during its soft opening phase, the grand opening is set for August 15. This new location marks a fresh start for Stanzione, who is eager to reconnect with his loyal customer base in a new neighborhood.

Stanzione 87 was a beloved fixture in Brickell for over a decade. When Stanzione closed that chapter, he promised his patrons he would return. The move to Little River reflects both a strategic and personal shift. “We did great in Brickell, but the area changed so much,” Stanzione shared. “Most of my regulars moved on, and many headed towards Miami Shores.” The Citadel, with its vibrant mix of vendors and proximity to Miami Shores, offers an ideal new home for his restaurant.

What to Expect at the New Stanzione

The new Stanzione will feature many of the crowd-pleasers from its predecessor, including calzones, pepperoni, and pesto pizzas, as well as the much-loved Margherita pizza. Stanzione also plans to introduce a monthly sandwich special, showcasing his signature Calabrian pepper sauce. The menu will be rounded out with chicken wings and chicken fingers, adding a variety of options for diners.

A notable enhancement at the new location is the use of a wood-fired oven, which Stanzione believes will elevate the pizza experience. “Being more hands-on with the cooking is important to me,” he explained. “I’m excited to be more present in the kitchen and not spread thin across multiple locations.”

Miami’s pizza landscape has evolved significantly, with new establishments continually raising the bar. Stanzione acknowledges the healthy competition and collaborative spirit within the community. “Competition makes things more exciting,” he said. “We push each other to improve rather than compete directly for customers.”
