Hey, Florida foodies! If you're a fan of fast food, especially Checkers, here's a bit of news that might catch your attention. A Checkers location in Port St. Lucie recently faced a temporary shutdown following a state inspection. And guess what? This isn’t the first time it’s happened.

Checkers is all about taking fast food up a notch. Sure, you’ll find the usual burgers and fries on their menu, but they also offer some extras like chicken wings and milkshakes that keep people coming back. The location we’re talking about is on 10461 S Federal Highway, and it has a mixed bag of reviews. On TripAdvisor, it pulls in an average of 3 out of 5 stars. Some folks are happy with the food, but others? Not so much.

What Went Down During the Inspection?

So, here’s what happened. On August 6, 2024, the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation conducted an inspection of this Checkers location. The results? Not great. The inspectors found a total of 8 violations.

Some of the issues were basic but still concerning—like a ceiling dripping water in the women’s bathroom, a hole in the wall, dead roaches, and a cooler in the reach-in freezer that was less than clean. But the real kicker was a high-priority violation: live roaches spotted near the cashier station. Not exactly what you want to hear about a place you’re grabbing a burger from, right?

Because of these issues, the restaurant was temporarily shut down. They did a follow-up inspection on August 7, 2024, and while there were still a couple of violations, none of them were deemed an immediate threat to the public. So, the place was allowed to reopen.

    Déjà Vu?

Here’s the thing—this isn’t the first time this particular Checkers has been in hot water. It also faced a shutdown back in July of 2024. So, if you’re a regular at this spot, you might want to keep an eye on how things are going there.

Hopefully, this location can get things in order because Floridians do love their fast food. In the meantime, there are plenty of other spots to grab a quick bite, but if you’re heading to this Checkers, maybe just check the latest inspection report first!

The one in Fort Pierce permanently shut down because they couldn't find competent employees.
