Attention, South Florida! Some familiar retail spots may soon be getting new tenants, as several Big Lots stores are officially up for grabs. If you’re someone who keeps an eye on the local real estate scene, here’s the latest news you need to know.
Big Lots, the well-known discount retailer, is currently accepting bids for the leases of 296 locations nationwide, including 10 right here in South Florida. This move comes after the Columbus, Ohio-based company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on September 9. With the clock ticking, some locations have upcoming deadlines, and other stores will see their leases auctioned off soon.
Here’s the deal: A&G Real Estate Partners, a New York-based real estate firm, is in charge of handling the process. Right now, they’ve got the green light from the court to accept bids for 144 stores, and they’re working on getting approval to auction off an additional 152 locations. The deadline for most bids is fast approaching—some as soon as September 16.

Boca Raton (21697 State Road 7): This 36,078-square-foot space has a base rent of $10.89 per square foot. The lease is up in January 2026, but there are two five-year renewal options. Bid deadline: September 16.
Boynton Beach (901 N. Congress Ave.): At 26,392 square feet, this space has a $14 per square foot rent. The lease runs until January 2029, with five five-year renewal options. Bid deadline: TBD.
Coconut Creek (4847 Coconut Creek Parkway): A 25,000-square-foot store with a $9.50 per square foot rent. The lease ends in January 2026. Bid deadline: TBD.
Hallandale Beach (1761 E. Hallandale Beach Blvd.): This 31,030-square-foot store is going for $13 per square foot, with a lease ending in January 2025. Bid deadline: September 16.
Hollywood (3921 Oakwood Blvd.): This 20,000-square-foot store has a $14.09 per square foot rent, with the lease ending in January 2025 and a renewal option available. Bid deadline: September 16.
Miami (8265 W. Flagler St.): At 23,108 square feet, this location rents for $10.50 per square foot. The lease ends in October, with three five-year renewal options. Bid deadline: TBD.
Miami Lakes (5580 N.W. 167th St.): A 26,500-square-foot space with a rent of $15.49 per square foot. The lease is up in February 2027. Bid deadline: September 16.
Plantation (7076 W. Broward Blvd., Suite B): This 25,800-square-foot store is leased at $7 per square foot. The lease ends in January 2027, and there’s a five-year renewal option. Bid deadline: TBD.
Pompano Beach (1440 N.E. 23rd St.): At 27,600 square feet, this location has a $15 per square foot rent. The lease ends in January 2027, with two five-year renewal options. Bid deadline: September 16.
Royal Palm Beach (511 N. State Road 7): This 30,000-square-foot space has a rent of $8.80 per square foot. The lease runs until January 2027, with four five-year renewal options. Bid deadline: TBD.
If you’ve been keeping track, Big Lots had already announced plans to close 17 stores in the South Florida area, some under the Big Lots name and others under Conn’s. However, retail experts are predicting that these large spaces won’t stay vacant for long, especially if they were leased before the surge in post-COVID rent prices.
To give you some context, as of the second quarter of this year, landlords in Miami-Dade County were asking for an average of $45.26 per square foot. In Broward County, the average was $28.93, while in Palm Beach County, it was $19.34.
