If you’re familiar with Florida, you know it’s not unusual to find your favorite fast-food chains popping up in places you’d least expect, like inside gas stations. And if you’ve ever swung by a Sunoco in Naples, there’s a good chance you’ve noticed the Subway tucked inside. But recently, this particular Subway got a surprise visit from state inspectors that led to a temporary shutdown – and for a pretty strange reason.

    Florida’s Subway-Gas Station Combo: What’s the Deal?

For those who aren't from around here, finding a Subway inside a gas station might seem a little odd. But in Florida? Totally normal! They’re everywhere – from a Mobile in Tampa to a Rally in Sun City Center, even a Circle K in Davenport. The Subway we're talking about today is the one inside the Sunoco station at 384 Randall Boulevard. With a 3.9-star rating on Google, it’s a spot where people grab a quick bite on the go. Although not everyone has had the best experience.

So, What Exactly Happened During the Inspection?

On September 4, 2024, inspectors from the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation popped by and made a pretty shocking discovery – there were no dishwashing facilities available. Turns out, the Sunoco was doing some construction work on an outside wall, which meant the usual three-compartment sink had to be taken out temporarily. In the meantime, employees were using a one-compartment prep sink to handle the dishwashing, rinsing the dishes, and then sanitizing them in a separate tub.

Not exactly ideal, right? Because of this, the Subway got shut down for a bit. But, good news – they had a follow-up inspection on September 5th, and everything was back in order! The restaurant passed with flying colors and was allowed to reopen.

And there you have it – just another day in the Sunshine State where even a sandwich shop inside a gas station can find itself in the middle of some unexpected drama!
