2024 Municipal Candidacy filing opens for Fairbanks North Star Borough
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - Filing for municipal candidacy opened for residents in the Fairbanks North Star Borough on Monday, July 15. The upcoming election on Oct. 1, includes Borough Mayor as well as seats A, F and G in the borough assembly. Seats A and B are also going up for election on the Interior Alaska Natural Gas Utility (IGU) Board, as well as school board seats A and B.
Soldotna FY25 Capital Budget Focuses On Maintenance And Park Improvements
The Soldotna City Council approved the City’s fiscal year 2025 capital budget last week, including $575,000 in appropriations for capital projects. The projects target preventative maintenance for city streets and the Soldotna Police Department Building, improvements to the stage at Soldotna Creek Park, and the first phase of improvements at Memorial Park.
Recycling firm will pick up fishing nets this summer
For harvesters in Cordova interested in recycling those huge, old commercial fishing nets, there are still two opportunities to do so before the season winds down. Reminder: water & sewer utility rates increased July 1
Please be aware that utility rates increased effective July 1. The City and Borough of Juneau Assembly, in August of 2019 (Ord. 2019-31 & 2019-44), approved increases to both the water and sewer utility rates. The 2% rate increase will go into effect July 1. Filing period opens today for Sitka’s municipal election
The filing period for Sitka’s municipal election opens today (7-15-24). Several seats are opening up on the Sitka Assembly this fall. Mayor Steven Eisenbeisz’s two-year term is up, and assembly members Scott Saline and Kevin Mosher are finishing their terms, leaving two three-year seats up for grabs. On the Sitka School Board, Tristan Guevin and Todd Gebler’s terms are expiring this year, both three-year terms.
Partial Closure Of Skilak Lake Campground Due To Construction In July & August
Due to construction projects, the Skilak Lake Campground will be partially closed in July and August. The Kenai National Wildlife Refuge will be making improvements to the Lower Skilak Campground. Petersburg’s Borough Assembly has a long agenda ahead of their meeting tonight — but exactly who will lead the proceedings is currently up in the air. FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - The Fairbanks North Star Borough has a new chief of staff, with the current head administrator Jim Williams moving down to the Lower 48. Williams had been serving in that position for nine years. Former Borough Mayor Karl Kassel first appointed Williams as chief of staff in 2015, and he remained under current Mayor Bryce Ward in that capacity for Ward’s six years in office, helping oversee the implementation of the Capital Improvement Program and carry the borough through the COVID-19 pandemic.
