    Vote: Who are the Summit County High School Athletes of the Week for May 13-19?

    It's time to take a look at the standout high school performers from Summit County for last week.

    Your vote will determine who will be the Summit County High School Athlete of the Week for April 29-May 5. We will pick one girl and one boy. Each athlete's credentials are listed above the poll — which will be live until 5 p.m. Thursday. The winners will be announced Friday morning on BeaconJournal.com.

    Now, let's meet the candidates. And if the poll at the bottom of each group of nominees doesn't load, please click here for the girls and click here for the boys.

    Here's a look at the girls nominees, in alphabetical order:

    Katie Gardner, Mogadore softball

    Pitched two shutouts in Division IV district games to help lift the Wildcats to the regional semifinals. She earned the victory Monday in a 19-0 rout of Grand Valley in a district semifinal, and came back to fire a two-hitter with 13 strikeouts Thursday in a 6-0 win over Southern in the final.

    Sydney Hillyard, Springfield softball

    Allowed a combined two runs in two game as the 11th-seeded Spartans advanced to Division II regional semifinals. She pitched a shutout while allowing seven hits Tuesday in a 10-0 district semifinal win over Elyria Catholic, and then struck out eight while pitching a complete game Thursday in a 10-2 win over Oberlin Firelands in a district final.

    Alyssa Hochstetler, Springfield softball

    Collected four singles, an RBI and scored a run Thursday in a 10-2 district final win over Oberlin Firelands. Also had a single, a double and an RBI Tuesday in a 10-0 district semifinal win over Elyria Catholic.

    Reese Reaman, Woodridge track

    Earned wins in two individual events and won two more as a member of relay teams Saturday at the Division II Lakeview district meet. She placed first in the 800 (2:18.67) and 1,600 (5:21.90) meters, and also rans legs on the winning 1,600 (4:03.83) and 3,200 (9:37.80) relays.

    Savannah Swanda, Twinsburg track

    Was a triple winner Friday at the Division I Nordonia district meet to advance to the Austintown Regional in each sprint event. She won the 100 meters in 12.08 seconds, the 200 in 25.12 and the 400 in 56.12.

    Here's a look at the boys nominees, in alphabetical order:

    Jake DeDomenic, Norton baseball

    Pitched a no-hitter with 10 strikeouts Monday in a 19-0 win over Cleveland Central Catholic and earned another victory Saturday in a 9-4 win over Revere.

    Finn Keenan, Revere tennis

    Won his semifinal match 6-2, 6-7, 7-6 at the Akron Division I district tennis tournament before having to retire in the second set of a 6-4, 1-0 loss to Hudson's Henrique Sa in the championship match, Despite that loss, he advanced to this week's state tournament in Wooster.

    Ben McKnight, St. Vincent-St. Mary tennis

    Placed fourth at the Akron Division II district tennis tournament, losing in three sets in the semifinals, to qualify for this week's state tournament in Wooster.

    Henrique Sa, Hudson tennis

    Defeated Revere's Finn Keenan 6-4, 1-0 (retired) in the championship match of the Akron Division I district tennis tournament. Sa, who won 6-4, 6-2 in his semifinal match, will play in the state tournament this week in Wooster as one of four No. 1 seeds.

    Ethan Wright, Manchester baseball

    Pitched and batted the Panthers to two victories. He had three hits and an RBI while combining with two other pitchers on a five-hitter Thursday in a 15-0 regular-season win over Tuslaw, and also had two hits, two stolen bases and earned the pitching victory Wednesday in a 9-6 sectional final win over Beachwood.
