There's a pretty good chance the region's parched lawns might get a bit of relief this week.

The National Weather Service says there's a chance for showers and even a few thunderstorms during much of the work week.

No severe storms are expected in the region.

As of Monday morning, about 2½ inches of rain have fallen so far in July at the Akron Canton Airport.

The average July monthly rainfall over the last 40 years at the airport is around 2.45 inches.

    Drought continues

Despite already hitting the average rainfall for the month in Greater Akron, the U.S. Drought Monitor says the region is still considered to be in a drought.

The bulk of the rain so far this month in Greater Akron fell over two days on July 3 and 4.

All of Summit County and portions of Medina, Wayne, Portage and Stark counties are considered to be in a moderate drought.

Under moderate drought conditions, the effects can range from impacts on landscaping companies, fewer mosquitoes and an impact on farm crops, including corn.

As of now, roughly 70% of the state is suffering from some drought conditions with extreme southeastern Ohio under a severe drought.
