Man, 20, killed on Coventry Street, another man arrested and charged with murder

A 20-year-old man was shot and killed late Saturday evening on the 1800 block of Coventry Street. Akron police officers arrested a 26-year-old man in connection with the fatal shooting.

At around 11:25 p.m., Akron police officers responded to the shooting, where they found the victim in front of a residence with an apparent gunshot wound. The victim, whose identification is being withheld pending further investigation, was transported to Summa Health Akron City Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased a short time later.

Stacy Allen Martin, of Coventry Street in Akron, was taken into custody not long after the shooting and was charged with murder, weapons under disability, tampering with evidence and obstructing justice. Martin was later booked into the Summit County Jail and is scheduled for an arraignment at the Akron Municipal Court Monday morning.

Investigators determined that there was an altercation of some kind involving Martin and the victim in the moments before the shooting. Police are working to identify others who may have been present during the incident. The investigation remains ongoing.
