Colt McCoy, former Browns QB, retires from NFL to cover Big Ten football for NBC

Former Cleveland Browns quarterback Colt McCoy will go from the playing field to the broadcast booth this upcoming football season.

McCoy, drafted by the Browns in the third round of the 2010 NFL Draft, will serve as an analyst for NBC Sports Big Ten football coverage beginning with Colorado Buffaloes-Nebraska Cornhuskers matchup at 7:30 p.m., Sept. 7.

In a 14-year NFL career, McCoy started 24 games for the Browns. In that span he played three seasons with the team, before playing for Washington, the New York Giants and Arizona Cardinals.

He connected on 764-of-1,220 pass attempts for a 62.6 completion percentage, tossing 34 touchdowns and 32 interceptions.

Unfortunately, his best-known moment in a Browns uniform may have been on Dec. 8, 2011 against the Pittsburgh Steelers in a Thursday night game when Akron native James Harrison delivered a brutal hit on McCoy that was deemed roughing the passer.

Harrison would eventually receive a one-game suspension from the NFL, but it generated controversy for another reason when McCoy’s father, Brad, criticized Browns officials for allowing McCoy back into the game.

According to reports, those comments may have sealed Colt McCoy’s fate in Cleveland.
