The Summit County Medical Examiner's Office has identified the person killed in a car crash Tuesday evening on Copley Road as Logan A. Johnson, 26, from Akron.

Officers originally stopped Johnson for traffic violations when he took off and led police on a short chase. The pursuit continued for a short time in the Copley Road area before police stopped chasing Johnson's vehicle due to high speeds.

He continued north on Roslyn Avenue at high speeds, running through a stop sign on Roslyn at Copley Road before driving into the path of another vehicle traveling west on Copley, causing a collision, police said. Johnson lost control of the vehicle after the initial collision and sideswiped two other vehicles before hitting a tree.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Johnson's passenger and the drivers from two of the three other cars involved in the incident were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. One of the two drivers was discharged from the hospital Tuesday night.

Johnson's passenger remains hospitalized in serious, but stable condition.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing, but authorities believe speed was a factor in the crash. A handgun was also found in Johnson's vehicle.
