    OHSAA football scores | Walsh Jesuit holds off Ursuline for Week 1 win

    Keller Moten took center stage for the Walsh Jesuit football team on Thursday and it resulted in a 37-35 season-opening win over Youngstown Ursuline on Thursday.

    The 5-foot-11, 185-pound senior rushed for 166 yards and three touchdowns on 24 carries and threw for another one to Dominic Romanini. Aiden Henry added a 21-yard touchdown pass to Milan Parris for the Warriors.

    DC Ferrell did it for Ursuline, rushing for 100 yards on 15 carries and adding a touchdown on the ground. He also threw for 212 yards and three scores with Devonte Taylor (7 catches, 74 yards, TD) as his primary receiver.

    Ursuline makes it close again against Walsh Jesuit

    A 5-yard touchdown pass from DC Ferrell to Devonte Taylor makes it 37-35 with 34 seconds left. The Warriors recovered the onside kick and salted things away.

    9:32 p.m. Ursuline stalls inside the red zone against Walsh Jesuit

    DC Ferrell's pass to Jy'Quise Liason was incomplete and Ursuline stalled on the Walsh 18 with 3:30 left. Walsh up 37-28

    9:25 p.m. Walsh Jesuit answers Ursuline with big score

    The Warriors pushed things back out to a 37-28 lead against the Fighting Irish thanks to a 15-play, 57-yard drive that ate up 6:18. Keller Moten pushed in in from a yard out with 4:41 left. The senior has scored three times on the ground and has a passing touchdown as well.

    9:12 p.m. Ursuline cuts Walsh Jesuit lead to six in the fourth quarter

    Blink and you miss a lot in this season opener. DC Ferrell goes in from 16 yards on a quarterback draw and it's 30-28 Walsh with 11:07 left.

    9:08 p.m. Keller Moten mania continues for Walsh Jesuit

    The Warriors take a 30-21 lead with 11:25 on a 1-yard run to cap off a nine-play, 44-yard drive that took 4:15 after a turnover by the Fighting Irish

    9:05 p.m. Walsh Jesuit knocking on the door to start the fourth

    A 2-yard run puts Walsh Jesuit first-and-goal on the Irish 3 to start the fourth quarter. Walsh up 24-21

    8:52 p.m. Youngstown Ursuline fumble puts Walsh Jesuit in scoring position

    DC Ferrell's fumble was picked up by Jamir McCombs to give the Warriors the ball first-and-10 on the Fighting Irish 44 with 3:50 left. It's 24-21 Walsh Jesuit

    8: 41 p.m. Youngstown Ursuline back in it against Walsh Jesuit

    A bubble screen from DC Ferrell to Devonte Taylor made things 24-21 with 9:08 left in the third quarter after Taylor went in from 19 yards.

    8:12 p.m. Youngstown Ursuline closes the gap against Walsh Jesuit

    The Fighting Irish scored on a 3-yard pass from DC Ferrell to AJ Snyder as time expired in the first half. It's Walsh Jesuit 24-14 at the break.

    8:08 p.m. Walsh Jesuit extends lead against Youngstown Ursuline

    A 14-yard touchdown pass from Keller Moten to Dom Romanini capped off a 10-play, 79-yard drive that took 3:50.

    It's 24-7 Walsh Jesuit with 51 seconds left before halftime.

    8:02 p.m. Walsh Jesuit opens up double digit lead against Ursuline

    Walsh quarterback Keller Moten went in from 18 yards on a designed quarterback draw to give the Warriors a 10-point lead. It's 17-7 with 6:51 left before halftime.

    7:45 p.m. Walsh Jesuit back on top against Youngstown Ursuline

    Soccer standout Freddie Marcell pushes one through the uprights from 29 yards out to make it 10-7 Walsh over Ursuline with 10:43 left in the second quarter.

    7:40 p.m. First quarter ends with score knotted between Ursuline, Walsh Jesuit

    The Warriors have the ball first-and-10 on the Urusuline 14 and have 134 yards from scrimmage after the first quarter.

    Milan Parris scored for Ursuline and Joe Balog scored for the Fighting Irish to put the score where it is.

    7:35 p.m. Interception leads Ursuline to tie the game up with Walsh Jesuit

    Da'Shaun Will snuffed out Walsh Jesuit's second drive to give Ursuline the ball back with 4:20 left in the first quarter. Four plays later, Joe Balog went in from 11 yards to tie things up with 3:38 left in the first quarter.

    7:23 p.m. Turnover stops Youngstown Ursuline's opening drive but Irish get the ball right back

    The Fighting Irish drove to the Warriors 3-yard line and looked poised to tie things up but Karter Rudzik tried to stretch the ball into the end zone and it was knocked out of his hands.

    Ben Biel picked the ball up in the end zone and the Warriors took over.

    7:16 p.m. Trick play gives Walsh Jesuit lead over Youngstown Ursuline

    Aiden Henry caught a lateral from Keller Moten and hit a wide open Milan Parris for a 21-yard score to give Walsh Jesuit a 7-0 lead with 7:57 left in the first quarter.

    6:55 p.m. Lucas Weaver to miss opener for Walsh Jesuit against Youngstown Ursuline

    The Warrior's will be without and 1,201-yard rusher Lucas Weaver , who scored 15 TDs last year. Weaver was banged up prior to Week 1, but is expected to be back in Week 2. Cade Romanini and Marty Tobin expect to pick up the slack for Walsh.

    Walsh Jesuit football players to watch

    Walsh's biggest graduation losses were all-state selections Brock Sherman, Brayden Foster, Noah Brock, John Keough and David Howersaat . What the Warriors have back can’t be discounted in third-team All-Ohio QB Keller Moten (1,840 yards, 20 TDs) will sit behind all-state lineman Kodey Kish . … Aiden Henry (42 catches, 536 yards, six TDs) and Division I prospect Milan Parris are the wideouts to watch.

    Youngstown Ursuline football players to watch

    Ursuline has playmakers DC Ferrell (56 catches, 838 yards, seven TDs), Devonte Taylore (40, 679, eight) and Tairan Davis (29, 408, four) who were part of an Irish team that scored 35.4 points per game. … Ferrell (five interceptions) returns as an all-state defensive back and is the leader without the ball. He’s got a swarm in front and behind him in John Frangos (119 tackles, two interceptions), Tairan Davis (101, nine for loss), A.J. Snyder (86, 15 for loss, six sacks), Israel Davis (48, nine for loss, three sacks), Karter Rudzik (86, seven for loss), Luke Kolar (43, three interceptions) and Jy’Quise Liason (three interceptions).
