Akron Pizza Fest will kick off Labor Day weekend. What to know before you go

The smell of fresh, hot pizza will be in the air in downtown Akron to kick off the Labor Day weekend.

The Akron Pizza Fest is returning for a two-day run.

The biggest change this year is the festival will not charge admission to enter and try out a slice or two or three.

Where is Akron's Pizza Fest?

The location will once again be in the city's temporary festival site on Bowery Street between South Main and West Center streets behind the Akron Civic Theatre in downtown Akron as new construction continues to remake Lock 3 .

There are five pizzerias participating in the festival that runs Friday, Aug. 30 and Saturday, Aug. 31, during Labor Day weekend.

When is Akron's Pizza Fest?

The festival opens at 5 p.m. on Friday and will close when the Rock the Lock event winds down.

On Saturday, the festival goes from 2-10 p.m.

Which pizzerias will be at Akron's Pizza Fest?

There will be five participating restaurants, parlors and small pizza places will be selling slices and whole pizzas.

• Pizza Hut
• T-Tony's Pizza
• Upper Crust

Things to do at the Akron Pizza Fest

There will be music during the event along with cornhole, giant Jenga and bocce ball. A pizza eating contest will be held Saturday night.

On Friday night, Zoso: The Ultimate Led Zeppelin Experience featuring Neil Zaza will be performing as part of the city's summer concert series.
