New body cam footage of an Akron police chase shows the chaos that unfolded as officers attempted to stop the driver and recover a 2-year-old inside the stolen vehicle.

The footage includes the suspect, identified as Ja Den White, 21, hitting at least one police cruiser and attempting to hit several others in the pursuit that ended in the injury of one officer.

The footage was uploaded by the Ohio Bodycam Youtube channel , which pieced together 22 minutes of footage taken from various officers’ cameras.

White reportedly stole the vehicle from the parking lot of a Circle K on East Market Street around 8:30 a.m. Aug. 15, police said.

When they found the vehicle, officers initiated a pursuit through West Akron, careening through quiet side streets and racing past traffic on main roads like Portage Path, Copley Road, Market Street, White Pond Drive and eventually Interstate 77 south.

The footage, which starts at 8:37 a.m. in the Ohio Bodycam video, shows officers chasing White as he ran numerous stop lights, drove over curbs and, at times, used his turn signals.

At one point, White and the officers are seen driving through the Firestone Community Learning Center parking lot and student drop-off area. No students could be seen outside.

After exiting the school parking lot, White could be seen driving over the curb and sidewalk on the school lawn.

At another point in the footage, an Akron officer appears to crash into the back of another cruiser. The officer that appeared to drive into the cruiser shouted expletives as he exited the car and seemed to fall on the ground injured. He struggled to stand and was assisted to a front lawn by a witness. He was taken to a local hospital.

According to the time shown on the footage, the toddler was recovered just before 9 a.m. White reportedly left the child on the corner of Moon Street and Bellevue Avenue before continuing to flee from police. The child was unharmed.

As officers recover the child in the footage, one can be heard lamenting the prospect of canceling the chase. “This is a chase that doesn’t get [expletive] canceled,” he said in the video.

It wasn't immediately clear whether the chase was called off.

Toward the end of the video after a jump cut, the stolen vehicle is seen apprehended on someone’s front lawn. An officer appeared to have crashed into the vehicle on the back driver’s side.

The footage shows White’s arrest and subsequent ride in an ambulance, where he continues to threaten the officers with him in the vehicle.

White was charged with kidnapping, willful flee, felonious assault on a peace officer and receiving stolen property. Police previously said additional charges may be filed.
