Free online event calendars for Summit, Portage, Stark, Franklin other counties ending

A longtime online community calendar project is coming to a close at the end of September.

Chad Wilson runs the Community Calendar Solutions project , which lists scheduled events for nine counties in Ohio and a city in Virginia. He announced the news to email subscribers in August, calling it the "end of an era."

Wilson told the Beacon Journal via email that the project's calendars centered around Ohio communities are SummitCountyCalendar.com, PortageCountyEvents.com, MedinaCountyEvents.com, StarkCountyEvents.com, WayneCountyEvents.com, CuyahogaCountyEvents.com, FranklinCountyEvents.com, LickingCountyEvents.com and DelawareCountyEvents.com. The project's Virginia site, CvilleCalendar.com, serves Charlottesville.

Wilson's team began the project in 2006 with the Medina County site, and they added rest of the sites came online within a few years, he said.

Over the past 18 years, Wilson said, the project has delivered more than 20 million emails and promoted 200,000-plus events.

Wilson told the Beacon that the project has run its course, noting that it has mostly been a financial breakeven and that he is looking to simplify his life.

In an email sent to subscribers, Wilson encouraged community members to continue using the calendars before the project's last day on Sept. 30.

"It has been a pleasure providing this resource for nearly two decades," Wilson said. "We are grateful for our countless business partners, non-profits, and residents who made this website a reality!"
