A 23-year-old motorcycle driver was killed Friday afternoon after being struck by another vehicle near North CLC, according to Akron police.

Around 3:20 p.m., the driver of a Yamaha motorcycle was traveling westbound on E. Tallmadge Avenue while a Volkswagen SUV was traveling east. Police said that based on early findings, the SUV apparently made a left turn (northbound) into the North CLC parking lot after the traffic light turned green. As the SUV turned, the motorcycle collided with it, police reported.

The motorcycle driver, whose identity is being withheld pending further investigation, was critically injured in the crash. After being transported to Summa Health Akron City Hospital, the motorcycle driver was pronounced dead, police said.

The driver of the SUV, a 41-year-old woman, was not hurt in the wreck.

The crash is under investigation. Police said speed is believed to be a contributing factor, but alcohol did not play a role in the incident.
