Jerry Jeudy 'ready to get out there' as his Browns debut against Dallas Cowboys approaches

BEREA — The exact word was escaping Jerry Jeudy as he talked about how he was feeling days before he made his Browns debut Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys .

"No, emotion would be very excited," Jeudy, the Browns newest wide receiver , told the Beacon Journal on Wednesday. "What else, else? What's the word I'm looking for? Very …"

    Anxious?

"That's the word," Jeudy said. "Anxious, that's the word. I'm very anxious. I'm ready to get out there and start competing for this team."

Jeudy was one of the prizes of the offseason acquisition period for the Browns. He was, actually, the first move of it , as they sent a fifth- and a sixth-round round pick in last April's draft to the Denver Broncos in exchange for the 2020 first-round pick out of the University of Alabama.

Not only did the Browns prioritize landing Jeudy as soon as possible in the offseason, they almost immediately gave him an extension. He received an additional three-year, $58 million deal less than a week after the trade was made official.

Now, Jeudy will get his chance to showcase himself in the new offense, which wasn't able to play with all of its various skill players together for different points in time due to injuries, including a knee issue that bothered Jeudy.

Quarterback Deshaun Watson has been a full participant in virtually every practice since training camp started. Tight end David Njoku missed about a week's worth of practices mid-to-late August with an undisclosed injury, while Jeudy, Amari Cooper and Elijah Moore all were in and out at times.

That's changed over the last couple of weeks. While the offensive line remains unfinished due to questions at left tackle, and running back Nick Chubb remains out recovering from last year's knee injury, the passing game has been mostly intact.

"It helps a lot." Jeudy said. "It is always helpful to have everybody on the field together, everybody on the same page. Makes the offense a lot smoother, a lot cleaner, a lot more efficient, just by having everybody together and communicating and understanding what each and every person want. So it's very helpful just being able to have everybody on the same field on the field together at the same time."

That's especially true for Jeudy and Watson, who got very little work together on the field during minicamp or the first week-and-a-half of training camp. That's made the times the two have been together even more important.

Watson's the key to Jeudy finding something he didn't have in Denver — a stable quarterback situation. He had no fewer than six starting quarterbacks over his four years with the Broncos.

"It been smooth," Jeudy said. "It been really easy, especially having a guy like Deshaun, a real quarterback with his type of talent, type of arm. Very smart, communicates well and knows what he wants out his receivers. So that makes it a lot easier for a guy like me to really just come in and just focus on what I need to do."

Which, for Jeudy right now, is trying to tamp down the anxiety heading into his first game with his new team.
