8-year-old shot by another child playing with gun in stable condition, Akron police say

An Akron boy is recovering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Authorities say police responded to a call of a shooting inside a Leonard Street residence around 8 p.m. Thursday.

Police say a child, age 8, was found with a gunshot wound to his upper body.

Investigators say the boy's mother told police the child was actually shot inside of a home on Hardesty Boulevard.

The child, whose name was not released, was taken to Akron Children’s Hospital where he is listed in stable condition.

Authorities say the victim was shot "unintentionally by another child" who was playing with a loaded gun that not been properly secured inside of the Hardesty Boulevard home.

The investigation is continuing.
