    OHSAA football scores | Wadsworth tops Medina high school football, recap

    The Medina High School football team took on its oldest rival in the 119-season history of the program Friday in Wadsworth , and the Grizzlies (3-0) made sure they knew who held the series lead with a 51-7 win at Art Wright Stadium.

    It snapped a 71-game streak by Medina (1-2) of scoring at least one offensive touchdown — Medina scored on a pick six against the Grizzlies (3-0).

    The last time it happened was in a 49-10 loss to Mentor on Sept. 28, 2018.

    Not only did it snap a six-game skid by Wadsworth in the series, but it gave the Grizzlies a 42-34-2 edge in the 78-game series.

    Gavin Madigan ran 119 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries and Calix Lemp caught three passes for 91 yards and a score.

    Madigan also had two of Wadsworth's four interceptions.

    With a running clock, there were only 13 plays in the third quarter. One was a Gavin Madigan touchdown. It's 44-7 heading to the final quarter.

    Gavin Madigan capped a three-play, 50-yard drive with a 17-yard touchdown to make it 44-7 with 6:18 left to play in third quarter.

    The Medina-Wadsworth third quarter will start with a running clock

    Gavin Madigan picked off Cason Diiulio for the second time - it was Wadsworth's third interception. The game will start with a running clock in the third quarter. It's 38-7 Wadsworth at recess.

    Wadsworth goes up 31 on great defensive play

    Shawn Kincaid jumped the out route for Wadsworth and returned a Cason Diiulio pass to Sydney Lloyd and returned it 54 yards. It's Grizzlies 38-7 with 2:19 left before halftime.

    Wadsworth extends lead over Medina in the second quarter

    A good kicker in high school is hard to find. The Grizzlies have one and Jack Dinwiddie showed why with a 28-yard field with 3:29 left before the break. It's Wadsworth 31-7.

    Wadsworth finds the end zone again against Medina

    The Grizzlies went 58 yards on eight plays and ended it with a 17-yard run from Gavin Madigan. It's Wadsworth 28, Medina 7 with 7:39 left in the second quarter.

    Medina can't capitalize on Wadsworth mistake

    A snap over the head of Wadsworth punter Will Ries gave Medina first-and-goal on the 5. The Bees ran two straight plays for negative yards and went for it on fourth-and-goal from the Wadsworth 10. Jack Riffle caught the pass from Cason Diiulio but couldn't gain a yard.     Medina gets on the board on a pick six

    It came from Korde Carey who jumped high and in the face of Brysen Hall. He picked it clean and then went 54 yards for the score. It's 21-7 Wadsworth with 2:56 left in the first quarter.

    Three drives, three scores for Wadsworth against Medina

    The Grizzlies are 4-of-4 on third-down conversions. This time Gavin Madigan got the first down on third-and-4 and said the heck with it and scored. It's Wadsworth 21, Medina 0 with 5:37 left in the first quarter. Wadsworth has 194 yards from scrimmage. Medina has 57.

    Wadsworth forces a Medina turnover, scores on next play

    Gavin Madigan picked Cason Diiulio and returned it to the Medina 45. On the next play Brysen Hall hit a wide-open Cooper Gray for the 45-yard score. It's Wadsworth 14, Medina 0. 8:57 left in the first quarter.

    Wadsworth scores on third play from scrimmage

    Well that didn't take long. On third-and-2 from the Medina, Calix Lemp took a pass from Brysen Hall and goes 69 yards for a touchdown. It's Wadsworth 7, Medina 0 with 11:14 left in the first quarter.

    Who to watch for Medina football

    The Bees have a couple of studs on defense in All-Ohio linebacker Cooper Josefczyk and defensive back Tallen Hulvey . Offensively, look for Cason Diiulio (44-of-88, 536 yards, 4 TDs, 5 interceptions), Brian Wuchter (14 catches, 143 yards), Jackson Riffle (6, 122, 2 TDs), and Sydney Lloyd (13, 121, 1) and Josefczyk (12 carries, 141 yards, 2 TDs) as a viable threats.

    Who to watch for Wadsworth football

    Northwestern commit Marquet Dorsey Jr. is one to watch on defense, as is three-star safety Mikahi Allen , who has 12 offers including ones from Penn State, Michigan, Virginia Tech, Minnesota, West Virginia, Washington and Pitt.

    A look at the coaches for Medina and Wadsworth football

    Larry Laird is in his ninth year overall as the Bees coach and is 66-30. He has an 87-50 career record as a coach with Medina, Avon Lake and Strongsville.

    Justin Todd is in his ninth season as the Grizzlies coach and is 96-43. He has a coach at Wadsworth, Mount Vernon and Loudonville.
