Copley police are investigating a threat made against Copley High School and its students Monday evening, according to officials.

The threat was reportedly made by a current Copley student on Snapchat, who said they were going to shoot up the school Tuesday, Copley Police Chief Michael Mier said. Snapchat alerted the FBI, who then alerted Copley police.

Officers went to the student's home and spoke with their parents, who said they were aware of the threat and were keeping their child home from classes.

The parents did not allow officers to speak with the student, Mier noted.

"We are continuing to investigate this matter but we do not believe this is a credible threat," Mier said. "We also do not believe anybody in the school is in any degree of danger at this point."

Once police were alerted to the threat Monday evening, they immediately began communicating with school staff and they are providing extra police presence on the school's campus today, Mier said.

No one has yet been charged with a crime as detectives work to determine next steps.

Let me get this straight. A student threatens to shoot up a school and they get a vacation day.
