    Akron guests to get their fill of Greek delicacies at 3-day Annunciation festival

    Food festivities will be in full swing Sept. 19 and run through Sept. 21 at the Annunciation Greek Festival in Akron.

    Guests can enjoy gyros, chicken souvlaki, calamari, dolmathes, moussaka, pastitsio, spanakopita, lamb chops and much more over the three-day extravaganza. Plus, they can top it off with seven types of homemade Greek pastries as well as Greek coffee.

    The festival's outdoor tent buffet line will run 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 129 S. Union St. The indoor dinner buffet line will run 4 to 8 p.m. nightly.

    The tent menu is taverna style, including chicken souvlaki and gyro sandwiches, salad, calamari, smelts, dolmathes (stuffed grape leaves) with meat, village fries, tiropita (mini cheese pies) and spanokopita (spinach pies). Inside entrees include lamb chops, lamb shank, souzoukakia (spiced meatballs), fish plaki, pastitsio (Greek lasagna with bechamel sauce) and more.

    Guests can order online at akrongreekfest.com . Pickup hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 20 and 21.

    Entertainment throughout the festival will include folk dancers in three different age groups as well as Greek music by STIGMA, Aegean Odyssey and Bouzouki Entertainment by Dimitri Kantartzis. For more information, call 330-434-0000.

    But what if the "diverse" segment of Akron decides to have a gangland drive by this time LIKE LAST TIME..... I'm all for lamb gyros and the other heavenly goodness that they usually have BUT AK(47)RON is WAY too violent and dangerous nowadays, last time I was in Akron at night, driving my daughter to Children's Hospital, I rolled down the window to get some fresh air and a few blocks away some gangsta with a "switch" let off a full auto burst, just because. APD have lost control of Crackron, just the usual suspects gangin and bangin UNCHALLENGED.
