CLEVELAND – The Cavaliers have had a busy summer when it comes to retaining their in-house talent for the future. That run continued Saturday, as the Cavaliers secured part of their bench by agreeing to a contract extension with Isaac Okoro , a league source confirmed to the Beacon Journal.

ESPN was the first to report the extension, valued at three years and $38 million. Okoro was a restricted free agent, which would have allowed the Cavs to match any offer from another team. Training camp, which will be held in Florida, begins in roughly two weeks.

Okoro, 23, is slated to play a key role off the Cavs bench as a swingman who can provide some defensive presence and occasionally some 3-point scoring from the corner. Okoro's defense has been praised routinely by the Cavs. Last season, Donovan Mitchell lobbied for Okoro to be considered for NBA All-Defensive Team honors .

Offensively, Okoro has been somewhat streaky, at times not hitting enough 3s to become a real threat and other times surging to become a key contributor, particularly when the Cavs can't have Mitchell and Darius Garland on the floor at the same time.

Last season, Okoro contributed 9.4 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 27.3 minutes per game.

This summer, the Cavs also agreed to long-term extensions with Mitchell (three years, $150 million), Evan Mobley (five years, $224 million) and Jarrett Allen (three years, $91 million) in addition to the hiring of Kenny Atkinson as the team's new coach.
