More than $7 million in state grant funding will support 12 new wetland projects throughout Ohio. One of the projects funded is at the Rosemont Preserve Tributary in western Summit County.

Gov. Mike DeWine and Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Director Mary Mertz announced the funding through the state's H2Ohio water quality initiative on Saturday.

A total of $913,807 will fund phase three of a project at the Rosemont Preserve Tributary, according to an ODNR news release.

Covering portions of Fairlawn and Copley, Rosemont Preserve has 62 acres of open space, according to an August news release from Ohio Rep. Bill Roemer, R-Richfield.

Prior to the announcement of the $913,807 grant, Roemer announced that he worked with Ohio Sen. Kristina Roegner, R-Hudson, to secure $400,000 to fund construction of trails and greenways for the preserve.

Ohio's wetlands filter water and provide habitats for plants and animals, Mertz said in a prepared statement.

“Wetlands are a vital component of H2Ohio to improve water quality across our state," DeWine said in a prepared statement. "Every new wetland we create or restore continues to build on all the progress we’ve been making over the years through H2Ohio.”

So far, projects at 183 H2Ohio wetland sites across the state are either underway or complete, according to the Saturday ODNR release.
