Akron's Haunted Schoolhouse scares its way onto list of best haunts in the country

The Akron Haunted Schoolhouse once again finds itself on the list of the 50 best haunts in the country.

The schoolhouse along with its sister attraction the Haunted Laboratory has already opened for the season.

The Haunted Attraction Association has named the schoolhouse as one of the "Top Haunted Attractions" in the country.

Also making the association's cut this year is the The Factory of Terror in Canton, which is also already open and scaring guests.

The Factory of Terror and the Haunted Schoolhouse share the same owner.

What makes these top haunts the best

To make the cut, haunts have to hit a number criteria from safety to scares to overall operations.

“We’re proud to see these attractions step up to meet the requirements of this national award, to not only be the best but to also dedicate themselves to safety,” said Brett Molitor, top haunts director and former President of H.A.A. of Hysterium Haunted Attraction in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Other Ohio haunted houses on the list

Other Ohio haunts recognized by the Haunted Attraction Association include:

• The Ghostly Manor in Sandusky
• The Spooky Ranch in Columbia Station
• The Dent Schoolhouse in Cincinnati
