OHSAA football scores | Marty Tobin, Keller Moten lead Walsh to win over Benedictine

One of the most anticipated nonleague high school football games of Week 6 took place Friday when Walsh Jesuit traveled to John Carroll University to face Benedictine in Don Shula Stadium at Wasmer Field.
It lived up to the hype, with the Warriors winning 20-12 in an instant classic.
It took a 3-yard run by Marty Tobin (30 carries, 201 yards) on fourth-and-2 from the Walsh 49 with 1:48 left to get it done but the Warriors (6-0) beat the Bengals (4-2) for the fourth year in a row.
Keller Moten rushed for 81 yards and two scores on 14 carries. He was 9-of-21 passing for 87 yards with a 14-yard touchdown pass to Milan Parris (two catches, 47 yards).
Chris Maloney rushed for 195 yards and a score on 20 carries for Benedictine.

The Warriors defense has been fantastic in the second half with Benedictine only gaining one third quarter first down. It's 20-9 Walsh heading into the fourth quarter. The Warriors face second-and-three from their own 49.
A three-play 50-yard drive by Walsh Jesuit ended with a 34-yard touchdown run by Keller Moten. It's Walsh Jesuit 20, Benedictine 9 with 6:45 left in the third quarter.
Marty Tobin pushed Walsh Jesuit into the red zone, but a fumble gave Benedictine the ball back. The Bengals trail 13-9 with 8:15 left in the third quarter
Walsh Jesuit answered Benedictine with a score of their own. Milan Parris, who made a gigantic catch on fourth-and-3 earlier in the drive, caught a 14-yard touchdown pass from Keller Moten. Moten's two-point conversion pass to Aiden Henry failed. It's Walsh Jesuit 13, Benedictine 9 with 18 seconds left before intermission.
Chris Maloney took the first play of Benedictine's next drive and housed it on an 80-yard line. The Bengals missed the extra point. It's Benedictine 9, Walsh 7 with 3:03 left before intermission.
The Joey Pomnean interception proved fruitful for the Bengals, who picked up a 27-yard field from Bryce Meiten. It's Walsh Jesuit 7, Benedictine 3 with 8:15 left before intermission.
Three straight penalties pinned the Warriors on their own 13. Tobin ran for 17 and 3 yards, there was a personal foul on the Bengals and Carlos Smith pushed ahead for 13 yards. First down Walsh.
The Bengals drove to the Warriors 43-yard line and looked like they were going to tie things up but a pass to Jonathan Spikes on fourth-and-3 stalled things right there. Walsh up 7-0 with 3:55 left in the first quarter.
The Warriors go 77 yards on 13 plays in 4:33 to take a 7-0 lead. Keller Moten scored from 3 yards out on a drive where Walsh was 3-of-3 in third down conversions. Walsh 7, Benedictine 0. 7:26 left in the first quarter.

Matthew Furst (53-of-94 passing, 713 yards, nine TDs) makes the offense go for Benedictine with primary receivers in JJ Baldwin (18 catches, 308 yards, two TDs) and Joey Pomnean (22, 273, four). Jamere Church (93 carries, 449 yards, seven TDs) shores up the ground game. … Benedictine excels on defense, having not given up more than 17 points to in-state rivals – Buffalo St. Francis beat the Bengals 23-17 in Week 3. … James Yane (34 tackles) and Jonathan Spikes (18) lead a defense that has forced nine turnovers. The unit gives up just 166.8 yards per game.
Who to watch for Walsh Jesuit football
The Warriors average 471.8 yards offense. … Keller Moten (40-of-66 passing, 637 yards, nine TDs, 52 carries, 493 yards, six TDs) leads the team in both rushing and passing. Marty Tobin (49, 375, five), Carlos Smith (32, 305, five) and Lucas Weaver (31, 237, two in four games) are the meat of the running game. … Milan Parris (nine catches, 260 yards, five TDs) and Aiden Henry (14, 180, one) are his primary targets.
