Cleveland Guardians without TV broadcaster next season as Bally Sports drops 11 MLB teams

The Cleveland Guardians could be looking for a new television home next season.

The Guardians were one of 11 MLB clubs dropped for the 2025 season by the Diamond Sports Group, the parent company of Bally Sports, which announced the news Wednesday.

Diamond, which declared bankruptcy in March of 2023 , only had a contract with the Guardians through the end of this regular season.

Diamond is not renewing contracts for the Milwaukee Brewers, Minnesota Twins and Texas Rangers. Seven other teams — the Cincinnati Reds, Detroit Tigers, Kansas City Royals, Los Angeles Angels, Miami Marlins, St. Louis Cardinals and Tampa Bay Rays — had contracts through 2025 and will ether have to negotiate a new contract or find a different television operator.

Diamond will continue to broadcast Atlanta Braves games as their only baseball partnership.

“We have no information about what is being done,” Jim Bromley, lawyer for MLB, said at a hearing on Wednesday. “We’ve had no opportunity to review and now we’re in front of the court and being asked to make our comments.”

One rival executive suggested teams with Diamond/Bally partnerships are bracing for 20% decreases in revenue, according to a Cincinnati Enquirer report .

The Guardians, via a team spokesperson, declined to comment on the matter when asked Wednesday afternoon.

Mostly small market teams get squeezed. The big market teams will be at even more of an advantage going forward as MLB will soon be priced out of the smaller markets.
