The game between Walsh Jesuit, Greater Akron's No. 1 team, and No. 2 Hoban was everything it was cracked up to be and more.
Trent Hayden's pass to the right corner of the end zone fell incomplete and the Warriors ended an 11-game losing streak to the Knights with a 19-14 win Friday night at Conway Field in front of 5,212 rowdy fans.
Keller Moten (16 carries, 141 yards, two TDs; 10-of-19 passing, 162 yards, TD) led a nine-play, 61-yard drive and scored the go-ahead touchdown on a 9-yard run with 39.1 seconds left.
The last time the Warriors (7-0) beat Hoban (5-2) was Oct. 3, 2014.
We'll save you the math. That's 3,654 days.
That's why Walsh coach Nick Alexander didn't hesitate when asked about where this game ranked in his career.
"One," he said. "To get over the hump, we went 12-2 last year and lost to the same team twice. We went to their place and got embarrassed. You work so hard for something and you trust in your culture to do things, you talk to the kids. It's the relationships you build, the bond between the teammates.
"You work so hard to do that and to consistently lose to a program, it hurts. It hurts for the kids because they do everything you ask and everything your staff asks. To finally help see them get through this, it's their team. To see their faces and to see Warrior Nation on the field, it's No. 1."
Hoban took the lead with 2:30 left when Hayden hit Brayton Feister on a 24-yard pass.
Aiden Henry led Walsh with five catches for 106 yards and a score.
Feister and Elbert Hill each had four catches for 56 yards and Hayden was 11-of-17 passing for 162 yards and two touchdowns.
"You have to tune out all the outside noise," Moten said. "It's what the 11 in our group thinks. I know everyone on our 11 thought we were going to score. That's what matters."

It’s a squad that had a 10-turnover game this season against Buchtel and allows just 11.3 points per game. … Hoban can go to a two-QB look with Ethan Roksandich (19-of-37 passing, 343 yards, TD; 40 carries, 338 yards, five TDs) and Trent Hayden (12-of-16 passing, 250 yards, three TDs), but it’s the ground game of Brayton Feister (76 carries, 636 yards, 10 TDs), Roksandich and La’Near Folk (34, 249, four) that gets it done. Hill (seven catches, 233 yards, three TDs) is Hoban’s primary receiver. Payton Cook (six catches, 131 yards) and Tayte Crable (7, 103, one) keep defenses honest as well with big-time Division I prospect Sam Greer providing pop on the line.

Milan Parris (11 catches, 307 yards, six TDs) and Aiden Henry (20, 205, one) are the deep threats on an offense that averages 460.7 yards. … Declan Norton and Caden Carter are part of a defensive unit that allows 12.5 points per game.
