Akronym Brewing to close downtown Akron location Oct. 19

Just weeks after announcing Akronym Public House in Medina is closing, the downtown Akron location is following suit, according to a social media post from the brewery.

Akronym Brewing at 58 E. Market St., which opened in 2018, will host its last day of service Oct. 19.

"Although it was our intention to consolidate operations and reestablish ourselves by focusing on distribution, changing circumstances and narrowing opportunities make that impossible," the post said. "Unfortunately, just as with our valued second location in Medina, there have just been too many obstacles to overcome."

The brewery thanked its staff and customers for supporting the establishment over the years.

"These years have been a labor of love, and we are sorry that this is where we are, the post said."

R. Shea Brewing, another acclaimed local brewer, closed its two Akron locations in March.

Dozens of Facebook users lamented the impending loss of another Akron brewer, with one commenter saying "there goes the best beer in Akron."

"We have no words. We’ve spent time with you, served beer during fundraisers and enjoyed hours of discussing beer with you. We are deeply saddened by this," another post read.

"Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all you did for our family and I hope you find another great adventure that showcases your amazing talents and gigantic hearts," still another post said.

Akronym Brewing is open Monday through Thursday from 3-9 p.m., Friday from 3-10 p.m., Saturday from noon-10 p.m. and Sunday from 11:30 a.m.-5 p.m.
