There will be frost on the proverbial pumpkins.

The National Weather Service has issued a frost advisory for northern Ohio from midnight through 9 a.m. Friday.

Temperatures could fall to as low as 33 degrees.

The weather service says the chill could damage and kill some sensitive outdoor plants.

Temperatures improve slightly on Friday night with overnight lows in the 50s.

There is a chance of rain showers over the weekend.

Drought conditions persist in parts of Ohio

The rain showers over the weekend combined with the soaking from the remnants of Hurricane Helene have helped alleviate drought conditions in much of northern Ohio.

All of Summit County, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor , and much of Portage and Medina counties are now drought free.

Drought conditions persist in Wayne and Stark counties and southern Ohio, the hardest hit portion of the state.

Some 80% of the state is suffering under drought conditions.

    Fall colors spread across Ohio

The chilly nights are just the right ingredient to cause the leaves to begin showing fall colors.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources says leaves all across the state are changing with a growing number of areas to be considered near peak particularly in southern Ohio.

The leaves changing now include dogwoods, sycamores and pin oaks.

“We are still seeing a lot of green out there but also seeing more colorful splashes of fall color throughout the state,” said ODNR Fall Color Forester David Parrott. “Cooler temperatures will really help the color transformation continue. We should be seeing the best fall color in the next few weeks.”
