Browns offensive tackle James Hudson III has shoulder surgery, could miss rest of season

Browns offensive tackle James Hudson III announced on his Instagram account Thursday he had undergone surgery on his right shoulder.

“Fresh outta surgery grind starts now! Any of my guys know the work don’t stop (face with steam out of nose emoji) appreciate the team, best docs in the world,” Hudson wrote on the IG post.

Hudson initially suffered a shoulder injury in the third quarter of a Week 3 loss to the New York Giants. He did start a Week 4 game at the Las Vegas Raiders at left tackle in place of Jedrick Wills Jr., but had not practiced since.

The Browns have not officially released any further details on Hudson’s surgery. The surgery likely will require a trip to the injured reserve list, and is expected to be season ending.

Hudson also started the first two games of the season at left tackle. He was playing right tackle in place of Dawand Jones in the Giants game when he sustained the injury.

The 2021 fourth-round pick out of the University of Cincinnati has appeared in 49 games with 17 starts in his regular-season career. He started the AFC wild card game at the Houston Texans in January at right tackle.

The Browns have Wills, Jones, Jack Conklin and Germain Ifedi at offensive tackle on the active roster. Conklin has yet to appear in a game this year, initially because of the recovery from last year’s knee injury and the last three games because of a hamstring injury.
