Bail bondsman hospitalized Thursday after being shot in East Akron while serving warrant

A 37-year-old man was hospitalized Thursday night after sustaining gunshot wounds while serving a warrant in East Akron, according to police.

At about 8:15 p.m., a group of bail bondsmen arrived at a residence in the 1100 block of 7th Avenue to serve a warrant. After approaching the house, an unknown suspect fired multiple shots, with the victim being struck with bullets at least once, Akron police reported.

He was later transported to Summa Health Akron City Hospital in serious condition.

Officers detained multiple occupants who left the house, including two males, ages 16 and 18, who had outstanding warrants.

Police recovered shell casings and other evidence from the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
