What to know about busy Rock Hall inductions, Guardians and Browns weekend in Cleveland

By Craig Webb, Akron Beacon Journal,

Cleveland will be the center of the universe this weekend.

The baseball world will be watching as the city hosts ALCS with the Guardians taking on the New York Yankees on Thursday and Friday and hopefully Saturday for Game 5 to see which team moves on to the World Series.

And then there's the nationally televised Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Concert on Saturday night next door at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse.

As if having all these baseball players and fans rubbing shoulders with all those rock and rollers in town wasn't enough, interstate rivals Browns and Bengals will play Sunday afternoon along the lakefront.

This will make for some busy streets leading into Cleveland and pricey parking spaces along with some street closures.

Hotels in Akron, Cleveland and Northeast Ohio

It also means pretty much every available hotel room in the city is booked.

Emily Lauer, of Destination Cleveland , said just one of these events has a major impact on the local economy.

To have all three lined up in the same weekend is a bonus.

The 2021 induction ceremony in Cleveland provided an estimated $51 million boost to the economy.

Lauer said these things have a ripple effect too.

With the hotels in downtown Cleveland fully booked particularly with fans of the inductees, she said, folks are staying outside of the city in the suburbs.

Gregg Mervis, of the Akron-Summit Convention and Visitors Bureau , said Greater Akron hotels particularly in northern Summit County are reporting a boost in bookings for the weekend.

How to navigate traffic in Cleveland this weekend

Traffic and parking in Cleveland can be tricky even on a good day.

Throw in some road closures and parking restrictions in and around the various venues, it can further complicate things.

High profile events like sold-out playoff baseball games can make finding a place to park more complicated and a bit more pricey.

For playoff baseball games, parking spots close to the ballpark can run $70 or more.

The farther you park away from the ballpark or stadium, the lower the prices typically get.

City-owned lots will be open this weekend.

Robert Fleig, spokesman for Cleveland RTA , suggests suburban fans consider taking the train into Cleveland this weekend.

There are stops near Hopkins Airport that offer free parking and the all-day fare is just $5.

The Waterfront Line with service between Tower City and Browns Stadium and the Rock Hall will be running Saturday and Sunday.

"These (Guardians) games are expected to draw thousands of people downtown, so please plan ahead, leave early, and allow yourself plenty of time to arrive safely," Fleig said.
