The Frankenmuth JV football team upped its season record to 6 – 0 with a 43 – 0 win over Bay City John Glenn Bobcats. The scoring opened at the 7:59 mark of the 1st quarter for the Eagles on a E.J. Bernthal to Jonah Zehnder 51 yard passing TD. Late in the opening quarter, the Eagles were pinned downed to their 12-yard line after a Bobcat punt, but it only took two plays to cover the 88 yards for an Eagle score. Brrady Mort raced 35 yards on a run and KJ Helms finished off with a 53 yard scoring run. Bernthal added the two-point conversion and Muth led 14 – 0. Midway through the 2nd quarter, Mort would score on a 5-yard run to complete a 12-play, 73 yard drive. After the Eagles defense stopped John Glenn near midfield on a 4th down play, they took over possession with 1:11 remaining in the half. After a couple of Bernthal completions to Riyu Deal and Zehnder to get the ball inside the Bobcat 10-yard line, Bernthal scored on a 2-yard run with 5 seconds remaining giving the JV Eagles a 28 – 0 halftime lead. On the opening possession of the 2nd half, the Eagles turned the ball over on an interception near the John Glenn goal line. The next play, the Eagle defense tackled the Bobcat ball carrier in the endzone for a safety. On the ensuing free kick, Deal returned the kick down to the Bobcat 16 yard line and three runs later by Deal, he scored from 2-yard out to up the Eagle lead to 36 – 0. the lone 4th quarter score was a Sam McGovern 25 yard cutback run. The Eagles defense, led by Taylor Baxter with 12 tackles and Gavin Martin with 11 tackles, held John Glenn to 90 yards total offense. The offense totaled 418 yards of offense with a well rounded rushing attack led by Helm”s with 97 yards. Bernthal was 3 of 4 passing for 96 yards with Zehnder catching two passes for 82 yards. The JV Eagles will make a two hour trip to Marshall next Thursday in a non-conference game with action to begin at 6:00pm.
