Dawn Dojnik says the cell service in Akron has been unreliable for over a year and has become a safety concern for community members.

"Can't call anyone," explained Dojnik. "Several times I've called my husband. I had to go to the hospital and do different things, just nothing. I said I'm calling Michael Schwartz at 7 Problem Solvers, and he's going to figure it out for us."

7 News made the trip to Akron. Until traveling west to Clarence, no 5G coverage was available at the intersection of NY-93 and NY-5. Several Akron residents are reporting the same problem in a local Facebook group.

"Verizon cell reception in Akron has been an issue for everybody probably for the last year to two years," explained Village of Akron Mayor Brian Perry. "I've had calls dropped myself."

Mayor Perry says the village's single cell tower can no longer handle all the data of text messages, apps, and more.

A representative from Verizon released the following statement:

"We know Akron relies on Verizon. We're in the final weeks of enhancing our network on Scribner Road to improve local coverage in the area, and that implementation requires time and patience for final safety protocols, logistics, and approval processes."

Mayor Perry says the network on Scribner Road should be up and running by the end of July and will cover the south end of Akron. Two more solutions aim to help with coverage:

    1. Construction on the village's current tower.
    2. Proposal to put a tower near Hunts Corners Road.
