Akron police are investigating a possible hit-and-run incident Wednesday morning in Firestone Park that resulted in the hospitalization of a 35-year-old male.

Officers responded to reports of a man who sustained head and leg injuries in the rear parking lot of a business in the 1700 block of S. Main Street at about 4:45 a.m. The victim was subsequently transported to the Cleveland Clinic Akron General with serious injuries.

Authorities initially believed the victim was shot based on evidence collected at the scene, but no bullet wounds were found. Further investigation led police to determine the victim was struck by an unknown vehicle while crossing Palmetto Street.

    The incident is under investigation.
