A 22-year-old Akron man pleaded guilty to the reduced charge of conspiracy to murder Friday hours before he was scheduled to face a jury trial in the 2023 killing of a DoorDash delivery driver .

Court documents show Matthew Couch accepted a plea deal with Summit County prosecutors. In exchange for the reduced charge and having one count of murder and felonious assault dismissed, he agreed to testify against co-defendant Derek Ransome-Fromby.

Ransome-Fromby, 21, is accused of shooting and killing 22-year-old Jaevierre Greer of Akron. He is charged with felonious assault, murder and felony murder, according to court documents. He is represented by attorneys Jonathan Sinn and Eddie Sipplen.

Ransome-Fromby is scheduled to appear before a jury at 10 a.m. on Nov. 1 in Summit County Judge Kelly McLaughlin's courtroom.

Couch, represented by attorneys Donald Walker and Noah Munyer, is scheduled to be sentenced after the trial at 1 p.m. on Nov. 19, according to court documents.

Greer was fatally shot shortly before 11:30 p.m. on April 19, 2023, in the parking lot following an argument outside the Timberland Village Apartments, police said.

Police said Greer got into a verbal altercation around 11 p.m. in Highland Square. Investigators believed suspects followed him to a delivery location before shooting him.
