The U.S. Open Beer Championship , based in Oxford, Ohio, announced its 2024 winners this week, naming Ohio's Third Eye Brewing in Sharonville as its 2024 Grand National Champion.
Two Akron breweries also were recognized, taking gold and silver awards home in numerous categories:
Lock 15 Brewing
This brewery at 21 W. North St. took home four awards:
- Gold , Herb and Spice beer − Station 3 Habanero IPA
- Gold , Berliner Weisse − Over the Top Berliner Weisse
- Silver , Imperial Pastry Stout − Pretty Boy Peanut Butter Pastry Stout
- Silver , POG & Pineapple − Schumacher Mills Shandy
"We’re honored to be recognized in such a talented community of brewers!" Lock 15 wrote on its Facebook page. "Out of over 9000 total beer submissions nationwide covering over 170 different beer styles, our hardworking brewers ( thank you Reid, Mike, & Joe) definitely delivered & brought home some significant wins!"
Excuse us, but we just have to brag because Lock 15 Brewing Co. just snagged 2 Gold & 2 Silver Medals in the 2024 U.S....

Other Northeast Ohio breweries honored include Muskellunge in Canton, Aeonian in Alliance, Butcher and the Brewer in Cleveland, Immigrant Son in Lakewood, Jolly Scholar in Cleveland, Market Garden in Cleveland, Masthead in Cleveland, Phoenix in Mansfield, Schnitz Ale in Parma and Wrecking Crew in Medina.
The U.S. Open Beer Championship judges more beer styles than any other competition in the world. It is also the only major beer competition to allow the gold medal winners of the AHA’s National Homebrew Competition to participate.
The U.S. Open became the first beer competition to be held in its own venue, which is a 6,000 square-foot Amish pole barn located on a small farm. The barn consists of a judging area, a serving area, two 450-square-foot coolers, an office and a nano-brewery.
