Girl, 14, shot in leg walking along Akron street

AKRON , Ohio (WJW) — A 14-year-old girl was shot in the leg while walking to a friend’s house in the early morning on Thursday, according to a police report.

City police got the call just before 3:30 a.m. and responded to the intersection of Margaret and Corley streets, according to the report.

They found the 14-year-old girl with a gunshot wound near her left knee. She told police she and her friends were walking to a friend’s house “when she was shot by an unknown suspect in a suspicious vehicle,” reads the release.

The girl was transported to Akron Children’s Hospital with a non-life-threatening injury.

Officers found the shell casing from the bullet nearby.

The incident remains under investigation.
