Valley scored the game’s only run in the bottom of the third when C.J. Chambley walked with the bases loaded.In Game 2, Chambley and Matthew McDonald combined on a three-hitter. Chambley pitched the first six innings to get the win. McDonald pitched the final inning for the save.Valley scored single runs in the second and sixth innings. Ty Shotts came on in relief for the second walk then got a fielder’s choice and a strikeout for the second out.Reliever Kenneth Diddell hit Forrest Heacock with the bases loaded, cutting the margin to 4-2, before striking out the final batter.Mountain Brook starter Caleb Barnett pitched 6 strong shutout innings, scattering 6 hits before the seventh inning comeback attempt. Love led the Spartans offense with 2 hits, 2 RBIs and a run.Whitman pitched the win, throwing 2 hittless innings.Mountain Brook held the Yellow Jackets to 6 hits, 4 coming in the fifth inning.CLASS 5AAlexandria 7, Sardis 0Top-ranked Alexandria got strong pitching and a pair of home runs to earn the Game 3 victory and advance to semifinal play next week.Pitcher Brayton Goode threw the complete-game shutout, striking out 10 and scattering 6 hits against second-ranked Sardis (22-13).Ryan Brown’s 2-run homer in the second inning put the Valley Cubs (27-9) on the board and Jacob Slaton’s grand slam was part of a 5-run fourth inning.Slaton was 2-for-4 with 4 RBIs and a run while Brown was 2-for-2 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs.Carson Gillilan was 2-for-2 and Russ Wiggs had a double for Sardis.Alexandria hosts Springville next week.CLASS 4ANorth Jackson 13-2, Westminster Christian 10-12The seventh-ranked Chiefs knocked off No. 5 Westminster Christian in a wild Game 1 before the Wildcats responded to stay alive in the Class 4A quarterfinals with a 12-2 6-inning win to force a deciding game set for Friday in Huntsville.Game 1 featured 22 walks by the teams as North Jackson rallied for the win. Westminster (25-8) built a 5-0 lead after 2 innings, getting a solo home run to center field from Lawson Collier in the first and 4 more in the second on singles from Josh Goode, Amos Baldwin and Lawson Collier with a double by Caleb Goode.North Jackson (29-8) tied the game at 5 in the fourth inning, taking advantage of 3 hit batsmen and 2 walks with a double from Cayden Wynne that cleared the bases. Brodie Caraway drove in 2 runs with a single.The Chiefs broke the game open in the fifth, sending 12 batters to the plate and scoring 7 runs for a 12-5 lead. The Wildcats scored a pair of runs in the fifth and 2 more in the sixth, but North Jackson scored a single run in the sixth and Westminster’s run in the seventh wasn’t enough.In Game 2, the Wildcats jumped on North Jackson starter Wynne in the first for 4 runs. After Collier and Sean Lapinskes walked, Riley Friend drove them in with a double to center. Goode followed with another double to score Friend and Baldwin’s double brought home Goode.North Jackson got a run in the bottom of the first before the Wildcats scored 4 more in the second. The biggest hit came on Goode’s 3-run double that scored Jackson Lange, Collier and Goode.Westminster put the game away in the third with a monster 3-run homer to left by Lapinskes. North Jackson extended the game to the sixth by scoring a run in the bottom of the fifth, but the home team answered with a run in the top of the sixth inning and held the Chiefs scoreless in the bottom of the inning.Lange earned the win, allowing 2 runs on 4 hits with 8 strikeouts.Game 3 is scheduled for 5 p.m. Friday at Westminster.– Jimmy LayCLASS 2ABayshore Christian 7-7, Pike Liberal Arts 4-10Third-ranked Pike Liberal Arts rallied from a 6-2 deficit in the second game to force Game 3 on Friday.The Patriots (28-6) scored four runs in the fourth and four more in the sixth to salvage their season against Bayshore Christian (17-13). The two teams will decide the series at 5 p.m. Friday.Trailing 10-7, the Eagles loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the sixth inning, but PLA escaped any damage and went on to win and gain the split.Peyton Elliott homered and drove in two for the Patriots. Luke Barron, Matthew Brookins and Cole Garrott each had two RBIs as well. Dawson Bradford picked up the win in relief, allowing three hits and no runs in 3.1 innings.Jack Malone, who homered in both games for Bayshore, went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two walks in Game 2. The Eagles used five pitchers.Malone homered and got a complete-game win on the mound as the Eagles won Game 1. Malone went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored to lead the offense. Jace Jones added two hits and Cory Parker had two RBIs.On the mound, Malone scattered six hits and allowed four runs – all unearned. He struck out four and walked three.
