ALABASTER – The Alabaster City Schools Board of Education approved multiple personnel actions as well as various improvements to its schools to prepare for the upcoming school year during a special called meeting on Wednesday, July 3 at the ACS Central Office.

During the meeting, the board unanimously approved a list of personnel actions that included resignations, change of status, transfers and assignments. Included in the list of new personnel to Alabaster City Schools is Jayden Kidd who will serve as the transition specialist for the ACS Champions Craft Academy.

“The market is so competitive with the quality of teachers right now—you (the board) doing this right now allows us to really shore up a lot of people,” Superintendent Dr. Wayne Vickers said.

During the special called meeting, the ACS Board of Education approved two agenda items for a Warrior Parkway site lighting project. The lighting project is for the back side of the high school and was included in the board’s original plans.

Additionally, the board approved a new entranceway for the A.C.E.S. Alternative School at the ACS Champion Craft Academy which is located in the former Restore building. Currently, the facility has double doors installed that were not acceptable and will be replaced by a storefront style entrance.

The Alabaster City Schools BOE approved furniture content removal and replacement for Creek View Elementary School at the recommendation of Volkert, Inc. According to Vickers, in order to make the transition as easy as possible while moving old furniture out and new furniture in, they worked with a contractor for assistance.

At the recommendation of Volkert Inc, the Alabaster City Schools BOE approved cafeteria furniture restoration at Thompson High School through which certain fabrics used by the school will be replaced with vinyl-based ones which will last longer.

“I think this will add some longevity to it so maybe we don’t have to do this again for a while,” Vickers said.

In other news, the ACS Board of Education approved the following items:

    • 2024 high school curriculum guide revision
    • Student code of conduct and attendance revisions
    • Easterseals Speech Therapy contract renewal
    • IMPACT Family Counseling, Inc and Therapeutic School renewal
    • Technology document updates
