Tawas Bay Ice Arena begins capital campaign
TAWAS CITY – What happens to an ice rink in the warmer weather if it is not properly insulated to maintain the cold temperature needed to keep the ice frozen? It becomes a flea market – at least that is what happens here at the Tawas Bay Ice Arena (TBIA). Some ice arenas have the funds to stay open eight to 12 months of the year; however, the TBIA is not one of them.
Once Prosperous, Now a Shadow Town: Prescott, Michigan
"SHADOW TOWN: A town that was once a growing and prosperous community, but thanks to unforeseen circumstances is now a shadow of its former self." Prescott began in 1879 as a railroad encampment for the Tawas and Bay County Railroad. It was originally the Lake Huron and Southwestern Railroad until it was purchased that year by C. H. Prescott, who immediately made it into a settlement called 'Prescott's Camp Six'. In 1882, the name was chopped to simply 'Prescott'.
Special Olympic competitors

Sherry Hasty, 79, of Whittemore
Sherry Marie Hasty, age 79, sadly left our world on July 19, 2024, after a life richly lived in service and kindness. She was born in Saginaw to Robert and Marie Bartlett on March 9, 1945. After graduating from Arthur Hill High School, Sherry began a career at Michigan Bell in Saginaw prior to moving to Whittemore to spend her life with her childhood sweetheart, Keith.
